How Do You Care For Your Skin When You’re Short On Time?

Is that mascara on your pillowcase? Did you go to bed with your makeup on again? Everyone has one of those nights when you just want to crawl into bed and catch some much needed z’s–even with a face full of filth and foundation. Your skin, however, also needs a time of rest and rejuvenation. And giving it this rest will only push your bedtime back by a few minutes.

Don't look at me like that. Get up and take your makeup off.

De-gunk

The greatest gift that you can give your face is a breather. A break from makeup, sweat, sebum, and God only knows what else it has accumulated during your day. Yes, your face loves a good, but gentle cleansing.

Removing the “daily grime” built up during your daily grind will better enable you to prevent clogged pores and nasty pimples. Simply use a gentle hydrating cleanser that is specially formulated for your specific skin type. Massage it into your skin and rinse it off with warm–not hot–water.

According to an “Expert Interview with Deborah Tan on Caring for Your Skin for Biconi,” the founder of Material World states that “people think they can fix their problems by applying lots and lots of product, but you can’t get your skin to look better unless you learn to cleanse it well.”

Tone

After cleansing, you will need to use a toner. Not only will your toner remove anything that your cleanser missed, but as Marie Claire‘s “Is Your Skincare Routine Due for an Overhaul?” states, it will also remove residue such as salt, chlorine, and minerals left behind by your tap water.

A toner also prepares the skin to better absorb your moisturizer.

Nourish

Your face has worked hard today. Smiling, sweating, and making sebum is no small feat. Reward your visage with a moisturizer that meets its needs. With varieties available for all skin types, including normal, dry, oil, sensitive, or aging, you should be able to find the perfect fit for your face.

And ,as the Mayo Clinic’s “Getting the Most out of Your Moisturizer” offers, “don’t use any heavy creams on your face unless you have excessive dryness.” Opt, instead, for lotions.

Dot your “Eyes”

Never use a normal face moisturizer around your eyes. Instead, opt for a cream designed especially for the ocular area. As Oprah.com’s “Enhance Your Eyes” warns, the skin around the eyes is much thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. And thin skin requires special treatment.

Apply a small amount of eye cream in dots around the eye area. Then, using your ring finger, gently dab the cream into the skin using a very light touch. Rubbing, pulling, or tugging will contribute to sagging and the appearance of lines. And no one wants that.

Love Your Lips

Everyone longs for healthy luscious lips. Not only do healthy lips feel great, but they look better too. Angelina Jolie wouldn’t look the same with peeling, cracked, or bleeding lips, would she?

Unlike the rest of your face, lips can’t produce oil. This makes them more susceptible to dryness. Applying a lip moisturizer–one specifically designed for your lips–can turn a dehydrated pout into a silky smooth smile. And, when opting for a lip balm, look for one that contains natural wax instead phenol.

By following this easy and quick regime before you go to bed at night and when you wake up in the morning, you will better enable your skin to keep it’s healthy glow and youthful appearance. And, keep those pesky blemishes, lines, and bags at bay.
